How We Serve Our Community

Formed in 1990, Knox Housing Partnership is a 501(c)(3) charitable corporation governed by a thirty-four member board of directors representing neighborhood organizations, lenders, businesses, community organizations, local government and private citizens. KHP now operates with a staff of ten and an annual operating budget of approximately $650,000. KHP is a NeighborWorks¨ organization, a HUD-approved Housing Counseling Agency and holds a General Contractor's license from the state of Tennessee.

Build a stronger community by providing desirable and affordable housing opportunities to all residents of Knoxville and Knox County.

  • being a leader in neighborhood revitalization;

  • providing homeownership education and counseling;

  • providing development services for the rehabilitation and construction of housing units;

  • providing financial products to assist low and moderate income households in obtaining affordable housing;

  • serving as a clearinghouse for community housing interests; and working in partnership with others for the betterment of our community.

Measurable Results

Over 600 potential first-time homebuyers have graduated from KHP's homeownership education classes.

KHP has helped more than 300 families purchase homes in Knoxville and Knox County.

KHP has effectively used federal, state, and local housing grants to facilitate the rehabilitation of 170 single-family homes, the construction of seven new homes and a 40-unit apartment community for seniors, the acquisition of a 48-unit apartment property and nine rental houses, and to provide purchase assistance to dozens of first-time homebuyers.

How We Serve Our Community

KHP provides a means for families to improve their housing situation, providing a favorable living environment for children, and improving personal responsibility and self-esteem.

KHP programs promote rehabilitation of existing housing in existing neighborhoods. KHP makes a concerted effort to work in partnership with neighborhood organizations to plan projects which enhance the community.

KHP is one piece of a larger strategy, The Partnership for Neighborhood Improvement, striving to also deal with other critical issues in low-income neighborhoods such as job creation, neighborhood organization, crime, and overall neighborhood improvement.

KHP produces both housing units and ready buyers.

KHP has been the recipient of numerous federal, state and local housing grants totalling over $7.4 million which will provide hundreds of affordable housing opportunities in the Knoxville community when fully implemented.

KHP provides a service to lenders in recruiting and screening mortgage applicants. KHP's homeownership education greatly improves a homebuyer's chance for long-term success.

KHP periodically brings together the community's affordable housing professionals to discuss relevant topics and promote cooperative relationships.
